Dr Bec and Team

Dr Bec

Dr Bec is a Melbourne-based veterinarian and academic, working in the clinic, animal welfare, media and medical research.

She has a passion for sharing the science of animals, including those we share our lives with.

Dr Bec is a regular guest on radio, a magazine columnist and presents short YouTube segments on all things animal related, with an emphasis on sharing evidence-based veterinary advances.

Her research spans many areas, with a focus on the role of the microbiome in pet health, developing new veterinary medicines, and working to prevent antibiotic resistance.

She advocates for a number of animal charities, in Australia and overseas.

Hilda

Hilda is a regal and silly Irish Wolfhound, who enjoys destroying soft toys and socks, long walks and clumsy gallops, raiding counter tops, very long snoozes, and time with her humans.

She is quite sure she is starving, is ‘definitely allergic’ to actual dog food and will tell you so, with great conviction.

Mao

Mao is a lazy, though gorgeously friendly British Shorthair, who deeply resents her strictly indoors’ lifestyle and Hilda, the interloper.

She lives for treats and warm sleeping spots in direct sunlight.

She sleeps at least 20 hours a day, upon a throne of cat hair and cushions, though she prefers to sleep overnight in a $2 plastic bucket.
